When You Can’t Find the Words, Let These Poems Speak

Feeling deeply is both a gift and a burden. Poetry lets us process the unspoken, the overwhelming, the inexpressible. Whether you’re reflecting on love, change, loss, or the wild uncertainty of life - you’ll find words that echo within your soul.

Why Do Some Emotions Feel Impossible to Put Into Words?

Life has a way of making us feel things that seem too complex, too overwhelming, or too tangled to express. Poetry exists for those moments - the ones where words fail but feelings demand to be heard. Poetic drama helps us express our experiences, exactly how they are felt in the moment. Or at the very least, that is the goal.

How Can Poetry Help You Process What You’re Feeling?

Poetry isn’t just pretty words - it’s a mirror, a map, and a release. It allows you to see your emotions from a distance, name them, and let them breathe. They help us acknowledge uncomfortable things, hold multiple truths that appear to otherwise be paradoxical, and create clarity.

What If You Don’t “Get” Poetry?

Well, there is good news, it isn't really something that you are supposed to "get". Poetry is about how you see yourself in the words and it is something you experience. If a poem makes you feel seen, understood, or even just slightly less alone, then it’s done its job. Not everything will resonate with you, but sometimes it only takes a single thing to bring your life into focus.

Why Do Some Emotions Feel Impossible to Express?

Because language wasn’t built for feelings this deep. Many non-english languages have words that help describe an exact, experiential feeling - like schadenfreude in German. Even then, words themselves are merely a communication tool, and there is something that we lose in the translation between how we feel viscerally and how well we are able to put that into words that you, or someone else can understand. Poetry is that way that bends words until they fit.

How Can Poetry Help You Feel Understood?

Poetry doesn’t just capture emotions - it helps us translate them into something you can hold, reread, and finally make sense of. It helps illuminate illusions, describe the ways we are trapped, describe the fears we have, and reflect the battles we overcome.

What If You Don’t Know How to Find the Right Poem?

Well, that is ok for now, there is not need to push yourself to understand what poetry is, why it might be important to you, or where to find the right one. I think it comes down to what kind of mood you are in. I have tried to make tag my poems with emotions and intent lines like “For those feeling the weight of pressure, trapped between reality and illusion, on the verge of a life-changing decision.“ - these lines are intended to provide a small guiderail of what I see in the poem. But, honestly, you don’t need to get the same thing, so no pressure. Whatever it is, I am certain there is a poem out there that speaks to you, even if it a single line. Being intrigued by the way that the words flow, help you to demystify ambiguity and overcome overwhelm, in addition to many other things. So, do your best not to worry yourself with seeking the right poem, because truthfully what happens is that the right poem will find you when you read it and it lands in some way. Good luck with that journey.

What Makes a Poem Truly Resonant?

Poems are reflections of someone’s inner life. The poems I provide a reflections of mine, albeit at times a little dramatic. Resonance occurs in these spaces when you see yourself in the words, meaning that the words on the page reflect a part of you too. Together, we share the experience of our humanity through those words, because it was written by me in such a way that my emotions are inescapably present. My shame, insecurities, and confusion are on vulnerable display, and resonance is what happens when you feel that too. So, I hope that it finds you in that place, and sees you in a way that you need.

What’s the Difference Between Over-Reflecting and True Self-Awareness?

In my opinion, they are the same things. “Over-reflecting” is a judgment that you are making - “over” what threshold exactly? We have an illusion that true self-awareness gives us a special role in society, but it doesn’t. What it does do, is allows us the courage to express ourselves, our imperfections, our vulnerabilities, and our insecurities to world such that others feel connected to us in our most authentic state - unfiltered in a balanced way. This takes practice, as things like perfectionism and long standing patterns block us from overcoming the things that hold us back. They frighten us significantly - nobody is immune, not even me. This is why poetry can be powerful, because, when you are overwhelmed, it can be pathway to see a part of yourself that you may have otherwise missed. I hope you see something reflected that helps you grow.

Poems That Speak to Your Experience

Most of my poems were written during times of “extreme feeling” they are reflections of how I was feeling at the time. I have always struggled to speak my feelings, but for some reason the drama of poetic words have always found their way to me while I am in a state where I cannot process them. I freely offer my vulnerabilities and my inner world to you, I hope that I can help you in some way, start with a couple of articles on:
