Relate, Reflect and Ruminate: Two Truths

Because sometimes, emotions don’t fit into bullet points and I have a flare for the dramatic.

For those feeling the inner conflict of defensiveness and fear

Defensiveness and fear,

Both at different shallow start lines,

Destined to race from opposite ends of the great arena,

Which is perceived first,

Ignorance or pain?

I ask again,

Again, the shouts from the runners,

Grow posthumously louder and more exerted,

Attempts to catch their quarry,

The ferocity ever building with each pass.

They were once friends,

At least, when they began,

As the race drew on,

Friendship turned to annoyance,

Fury then contempt.

Stones they hurled across the track,

Attempts to slow, so they may catch,

Their initial intent lost to time,

Bleeding endlessly for some noble cause,

Righteous winners in spirit only.

As one finally draws near their prey,

They find the other dead from their wounds,

β€œI am right, I win” they exclaim,

Never to realise the pain they caused within,

Living blind is to live with all suffering.

Never realising, slowly dying,

Run faster to catch it if you can,

Or maybe stop and acknowledge the two-faced man,

Death may not be his suitor,

But maybe you can.
